Via een verborgen portaal ergens diep in een kelder die stamt uit de Eeuw der Legenden, komt hij in een vreemde, afgesloten wereld waar wezens op hem wachten die de mensen van deze tijd alleen kennen als een soort van sprookje. Niet iets wat echt bestaat. Het zijn de wezens van een populair spelletje

Daarna vindt hij ergens anders een soortgelijke portaal, die hem naar andere, soortgelijke wezens toeleiden.

Daardoor ontpopt hij zich als een begaafd legeraanvoerder, die de wetten van de krijgskunst volledig doorziet. Door zijn talent verzamelen zich als vanzelf soldaten onder hem, omdat ze weten dat als ze voor hem vechten, ze misschien morgen nog leven.
